I first heard about this place through Urbanspoon when I was trying to find a good sushi place. I went with a friend just to try it, I was quite over the usual places that I regularly frequent for sushi. When we got there, we couldn't even find it...that's how small it was. I went in with low expectations. To my surprise, the service was very good. The waitress was very friendly and polite. We got rolls, sake and beers to start. The rolls were good but what blew me away was the shrimp pad Thai....ohhhemmmgeeee! It was absolutely delicious and fresh. It was not greasy at all. I requested the spiciness level to be Thai hot which was perfect. I highly recommend the spice if you like it hot, or if not the Pad Thai itself was great enough on its own. Overall a great experience, I'll be going more often and recommending it to everyone. This was definitely the hole in the wall place that surprised me in a good way.

The service is very professional and polite here, which I appreciate, but the sushi rolls are not very good. I suspect this place is on its way out. Only one other person besides myself has been here for lunch during the two visits I have made here. I hate to see small businesses struggle, and the vibe of the place is like the staff is going through the motions. There is no positive energy here. It's a shame, because the place looks nice and clean inside. I tried a lunch special on my first visit where I picked two half rolls and it came with Miso soup. The Eel roll was decent, but the Yellowtail did not taste fresh at all. My second visit I decided to try their namesake and got the Akuna roll. This was just okay. Both visits I had the same server, and again, she was very professional and seemed to care, so I am giving three stars. I just can't recommend the sushi. I didn't try the Thai food, but I have a lot more Thai restaurants to choose from near work.

This place is pretty below average and I dine here out of convenience because it's across the street from my house. The owners are picky about how they do things and usually substitution requests are met with a resounding "NO" or an absurd up-charge. The fish is not very fresh but pretty on par with 90% of the Sushi/Thai fusion places that saturate this area. The Thai food here is hit or miss. Some things are half-way decent and other things are awful. Service is lack-luster most of the time too so you can't really count on that. I think the reason it's stayed open so long is because it's convenient and there are barely any sushi places in Cooper City. They also do a lot of take out orders so I'm sure that's kept them afloat. If you're hungry and want sushi/Thai in the cooper city area and simply cannot wait, then come here. Otherwise you're better off picking up a package of sushi from Fresh Market down the street.

First time diners and couldn't be happier. Very Fresh fish, and great service. A hidden gem for sure. Edamame was standard as they come, but sashimi was great, and rolls were also very good!

Came by today to have some spring rolls and it was delicious. They even give you a hot towel to wipe your hands! Love it. I will be going back!

We called to order take out. My daughter was out running errands so we called in an order for her to pick up on the way home. After placing the order and providing our credit card information, we were informed that the person picking up the order had to show the credit card on arrival. They would not release the food! I had to leave the house to pick up the food myseld and on arriva at the restaurant found that they had not even started preparing the meal. An hour and a half after initially ordering, we finally got the food home and found it just thai just average. There are several other Thai restaurants in the area that we frequent tht are friendlier and more accomodating with to go orders.

I love the big eel roll and their tuna tataki. Soups are always comforting, and you can add some sake on an especially cold day. ROlls are always fresh, and their Thai food is always tasty and not too greasy. And of course, Warm service and delicious food.

Ive been going here on on off since about 1997. The sushi chef was amazing but that was years and years ago. Since then it's been average. Tonight was terrible . Shrimp tempura roll that smelt like old grease and a JB roll which looked nasty. Uncooked fish scares me when you lose trust in the restaurant. Always nice people but just not enough volume to keep it fresh. I will not be going back!!!!

My new favorite Thai place! I started with the Tom Yum Gai soup and ordered it Medium to Hot. It came out perfectly spicy without burning my face off. Then i had the Basil Chicken. Very tasty and just the right amount of spice. we also had a sushi appetizer to share. The tuna was delish. The owner came over to check on us and let us know that the Herbs are all picked fresh from the restaurant's garden. Service was great! they start you off with warm towels to clean your hands and your water glass is never less that half full before they come around.

It was my first time ordering pickup at Akuna and when I placed the order over the phone the woman said they were very busy and that I would be 30 mins - not a problem. When I got there I noticed there was only 3 tables sat so i thought that was strange because it didn't seem busy. I waited for almost an hour (52 mins to be exact) I was a little annoyed but still ok. I asked the only server that was taking care of guests about how much longer and when she asked the OWNER he just shoo'ed her off. Meanwhile, I saw this gesture and couldn't believe it. You are the owner of this restaurant and you treat your guests like that? I was shocked. The server was very apologetic (unlike the owners) while waiting for my roll my hot food was cold. Needless to say, this was my first and last time ordering from Akuna. Id rather drive out of my way and go to Sushi Sogo

I've been ordering sushi at this place for years. Dinner can be a little pricey so lunch specials are the way to go. Only complaint: their spicy mayo isn't really spicy. Other than that, the service is great!
